Breathe in breathe out

This spring I was working on a series of grief quilts (these were inspired by the song by Matt Kearnley, Breathe in Breathe out), while experimenting with different kinds of fabric paints.

This is the first in the series, “Breathe in breathe out”

Adding another label to my blog, “Oh …!”, I’ll share one of quilting’s hard lessons.
I had a Shiva Paint stick that I had never tried, so I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. I ripped some strips of black fabric, and glued them to a piece of batting. Then I drew a shape and some letters with the silver paint stick, and left it to dry. It dried for days, and felt still kind of sticky, so I left it for a few more days. Still sticky, I figured this was how it was supposed to feel. Well, I can tell you, with my iron as a witness that it was not so. Oh…!

I have no idea if the paint ever will come off, but at least it does not transfer to my fabric anymore…

The second attempt, “Breathe in and out and in and out” using a black fabric crayon, ink and stamps, was much more successful though!

  1. The grief series is quite compelling. I can't believe all the posts you did today. Maybe because you can't get around very well and had more time to sit at the computer.

Have you tried ironing salt to get the paint off? It works on sticky things but I don't know about the paint.
