Sorry, the Mystery is now closed.
You are hereby invited to take part in Mrs Moen Spring Mystery 2010.
About the project:
- It's suitable for any decor depending on your choice of fabrics.
- It's suitable for beginner quilters.
- It’s based on a traditional block with a fun, little twist.
- It’s great for scrap- and stashbusting (unless you want an excuse to buy some more fabric).
- You will have 4 12”*12” blocks (finished size) which you can use for
a table runner ca 12”*48” without borders
or a wall hanging/table topper ca 24”*24” without borders
or you can set them on point or add sashing or borders...
Fabric
First, let me show you mine
You will need a main colour, style or value (A) (for instance lights, greys, pastels, 30ies, yellows, flowers) and 3 fabrics that stand out from this (B-D):
A: several fabrics (5+) in your main colour/style/value (mine is taupe); enough for a total of 68 2½”*4½”pieces.
B: a contrasting fabric (light if your main fabrics are dark, dark if they are light, mine is white), a 4½”*32” strip will do.
C: a fabric somewhere between pink and red (mine is red), a 4½”*32” strip will do.
D: a fabric somewhere between yellow and orange (mine is orange), a 4½”*11” piece will do.
I know picking fabric can be hard at any time, so you can email me pictures if you have any questions about your choices.
Instalments
There will be 5 instalments including these general instructions. I will post once a week on Mondays starting on Jan 25th, which will give you a couple of weeks to get your fabrics together:
2 Cutting, Jan 25th
3 1st round of piecing, Feb 1st
4 2nd round of piecing, Feb 8th
5 Putting it together, Feb 15th
Signing up
You will sign up by leaving a comment to this post, making sure I get your email address (either through your Blogger profile or leave one here). The instructions with pictures will be posted in a separate blog. I will post the link here at Mrs Moen on the dates set; you’ll just follow the link and use your email address to get access.
You will sew at your own pace; the prize you will get for finishing is a fun, little project. I would love to see pictures of your finished projects though!
Copy the Mystery image (with a link to this post) into your blog to spread the word if you like; the more the merrier. If you have any questions, send me an email.
Added: Please leave your email address in your comment. Thanks!
Julie, Michele (thymegardener): I need you email addresses to set you up!
Sandi: I have a problem with your email address.

ReplyDeleteHi Mrs Moen,
ReplyDeleteNicolette (dutch comfort) made me notice your blog and mystery. I would love to quilt along. And I would love to use some of my cat fabric for it.
Is this suitable in your opinion?
Thank you Laetitia
Hi Laetitia!
ReplyDeleteCat fabric would be fun and do very well as long as you have contrast between the A fabrics and B, C, and D. If your cats fabrics are very busy, you can use solids for B, C, and D (like me).
Please send/leave me an email address so I can add you to the Mystery blog! Thanks!
oooh! A mystery quilt that I actually caught at the beginning! Sounds like a blast! skittlesinsocks @ g-m-a-i-l.c-o-m
