Make Do Month; The pledge

(What was on top of my boxes yesterday)

Enough thinking already; it’s time, so as of today I’m starting my first Make Do Month. I am in dire need of stash control and the obvious solution is to not add more stuff to it (or, as in my case, them). A year of stashbusting won’t work for me, that’s way too long, but I can do a month. When the month is over, I’ll decide if and when I’ll commit to another month. Any number of months will help, and the idea is that this will lead me to the path of a little-less-crazy-hoarder-lady. I’ll let you know how that works out.
The only things that will not be included in this pledge are whatever I might (really, really, really) need to meet deadlines or items I (really, really, really) need for upcoming classes. I’ll be teaching a couple of new classes in the fall and might need stuff for kits and samples; I don’t think this will happen, but, you know, just in case. I usually work from my stash and rarely buy fabric for specific projects anyway, so this will be a piece of cake, right???

Maybe I should think of this as a challenge; I do love challenges you know. How about you; would your stash/sewing space/family/mental health benefit from a no-shopping month?

Wish me luck!

  1. Good for you. It's so hard to resist that shiny new piece of fabric or art supply just begging to be taken home. I think we all have the same problem. I am glad I live in a small house, that way I can't let it
take over too much, no place to put it. There should be one of those tv shows about craft hoarders, eh? I am sure your make do's will be fab as always my friend...

  2. Good luck! I've made the pledge a couple of times, but then I'll start a new project or quilt along where I just need a certain type of fabric. Great challenge for all of us.

  3. No shopping? No SHOPPING? FOR A WHOLE MONTH?!? (This is me, running screaming into the night! lol)

Best of luck on your stash busting. I've actually been thinking about how I'm going to get rid of my scraps, too, and will be trying to work on that soon. Here's hoping we're both successful!

  4. Have fun creating! Unfortunately I would not be able to participate. For I have already purchased fabric this month. :o)

But you do give me something to think about for next month.

  5. Uh. . . yeah, my entire household could benefit from a no shopping month. I'll take the challenge! No fabric for a month, unless it's a backing needed to FINISH a project. :) Thanks for the push!

  6. mostly my bank account would benefit. I also need to just sell/giveaway/gift a lot of my stash that I don't really like anymore and I know I won't use it. It's taking up valuable shelf space! Good luck this month - I know you have plenty of supplies to make it 30 days, even with the amazing rate of production that goes on in your house!

  7. I'm making a stash buster quilt now following another blogger, but in the back of my mind I was thinking I would buy fabric for it if I needed to, so I don't think I'm really committed. I look forward to seeing what you come up with, since you have great creativity.

  8. Good luck. I'm just now thinking about all the wonderful things you showed me I can do with these old tablecloths! I'll be watching to see what you do with that stash. I sure do need to get rid of some of mine.

  10. I started my crafty supply boycott last November. I haven't been perfect about it, but I have been WAY better about purchasing things and digging through the stacks to find something that will work. I should do a fabric boycott too. I am getting out of control. Good luck!

  12. have fun with your make do month! i regularly do that type of thing...forbid myself from buying fabric for certain amounts of time. it's good for the creativity as well as the pocketbook and the space in the house. :)

  13. Good luck! I try hard to work out of my stash but because I work on my church's quilt ministry, I have to take advantage of great sales when they arise - at least that's what I keep telling myself!
