Silk thread

I bought a few boxes of silk thread at the thrift store a while back. I love the colours, but I’m not sure how I should use them. They seem a bit thick for hand appliqué, maybe decorative stitching of some kind. Any suggestions?

  1. The silks are beautiful! I have some from my mother, and they are very fragile, so I think decorative stitches are the best way to use and show them.

  2. Old thread usually doesn't work well for anything if it isn't strong, but if it IS, then...

  3. oh wow! what a great find and amazing colors!!! I would use it for decorative stitching like Ulla suggested. Or you could do a giveaway with some- *wink*... Good luck, can't wait to see what you use it on!!!

  4. How about you make an abstract tangle of it, then cover it with that bridal veil stuff and fmq quilt over the top of it

  5. They are luscious colors! I think I would use it in a crazypatch victorian style. Use velvets, silks, etc, and use that silk thread to stitch and embroider. It would make a lovely era piece...

  6. Those sunny yellows sure brighten up the day. I would use them for stitching and embroidery, french knots and big showy stitches. xox Corrine

  7. THey are so pretty! I would think they'd make fabulous running stitches for a hand-quilted accent on any quilting project.

  9. Right now, I'd wax some up and bind a book with them--that's what I've been doing lately, so everything makes me think "bookbinding," but decorative stitching is probably a better choice, for sure!

Such beautiful colors--what a great find!
