Heart Quilt basted

OK, right on schedule, the Heart Quilt top is basted and ready for quilting.
I chose a grey fleece which I already had for the backing, and safety pins for basting. After the first unhappy basting experience on my then brand new birch coffee table, I always use a large rotary cutting mat underneath.
I cut off all those little threads too. Winter is the perfect time of the year for thread snippingYou’ve got to love fleece. I put little snippets on my shoulder all the time. People tend to look at me a bit funny when I forget to brush off these little corsages when I leave the house though.

I think I’ll pop on my walking foot and quilt the vertical seams in the ditch. I love how the blocks look right now and want to keep them as pristine as possible. Besides the look there is also the time issue; the quilting has to be finished by next Wednesday…

  1. What a wonderful quilt. I am going to have to do a fleece backing when I get back to the states...you can't find fleece here.

  2. Love your heart quilt!
    Great idea to use fleece.
What are your experiences with washing; is there no difference in shrinking between the cotton top and the fleece backing?

  3. I never tried a fleece backing, because they are synthetic. I’m curious what will happen when you wash the quilt. Did you also use batting?

  5. I also wear thread corsages....in fact quite often I leave the house with threads everywhere! People are always picking them off of me. Really love the hearts and fleece backing.
