Sounds too good?

If it sounds too good to be true... I bought an ironing mat that would protect delicate fabric from the heat of the iron thinking it would be great for pressing all those little white fabric pieces in my globes. White turns quickly into yellow if you’re not careful (or so I hear, of course these things never happen to me.-).

Yellowish fabric is not really a problem compared to this don’t you think? The mat melted as soon as I put my iron on it and stuck like glue onto the sole. I tried different remedies to get it off but in the end the good old kitchen knife did the trick.

I think I’ll return the mat and get a refund.

  1. Oh boy, when I need to clean the iron sole I put it on the lowest temperature and take a sand sponge with tooth paste. Then clean it with some water and iron on an old piece of fabric to have the sole completely clean. It always helps, especially with sticky stuff!

  2. Stackars Dig! Vi quiltare önskar oss, iallafall jag, ofta ett nytt strykjärn i presen då frågan uppstår :o) . Så ett "lager" är bra att ha...........men det ordnade sig läser jag.

  3. Oh, my goodness! I think your iron mat needed a warning: "not to be used with a hot iron" lol.

  4. Well I guess we all have those little disasters. I found a stick for the iron that you swish on it like a glue stick when the iron is warm and it takes off gunk? But I think this gunk was too big a task even for that stick. Glad you were able to remove it. xox Corrine

  5. How awful! I use a silpat teflon sheet when ironing sticky stuff. If you can't find them in Norway, let me know and I can mail you one.

  7. That's why I use Gladbake - or any of those baking papers with silicon. Just bin it when you are done. Sue

  9. Oh so frustrating! I like your thimble too. My metal one keeps slipping off if my fingers get cold.

  10. I'd like to know what Brand, as I definitely do not want to buy it. And while I'm sorry you had a bad experience, I do appreciate you sharing insights so others hopefully will not have this problem. Still, I'll feel better if the store/Manufacturer would give you your money back.

I have an extra mat that I can send you, if you like.
