Branching out

A few more small painting with fiber samples – Winter branch and Spring branch in two different colourways.

These were really fun to make, although I wasted an evening cutting bad shapes before I did these. I was building on an idea from the kits in this post - which reminds me that my sample from the kit has not been properly finished although the class was more than a month ago. I was thinking of using the idea for Christmas cards - if I get around to making cards at all this year.

If I had to choose one kind of material to work with for the next year, it would be sheers. However, having to rearrange my tiny little sewing room to make room for my sheer stash refill, I found some old treasures from the beginning of my fabric obsession. Lots of fun thrifted treasures just waiting to be used, leaving my fingers itching to start something new. They have been sitting there for so long that I think I’ll rewash them before I store them away again.

Tomorrow I’ll meet with my sewing group which is always a great way to spend a Wednesday evening. Fabric, sewing machine and great friends, and the opportunity of making some progress on a WIP or two sounds all good to me.

  6. Oh, I really, really like these works! Are the 'stems' printed on the background fabric, or also a dark sheer? They are just lovely.
