With Christmas just around the corner, I set everything else aside for a couple of days this week and got started on some Christmas quilting. It is always nice to have a few extra homemade presents ready at this time of the year; you never know when you’ll need one do you. I finished 5 pillow covers on Friday and a couple of hours later 3 of them were already spoken for. One of the others will be a prize in a giveaway tomorrow, so make sure to come back to enter the giveaway if you’d like a touch of pink for the holidays.
During a recent clean-up in my sewing room (embarrassing how many posts that have started with these words..) I found a box full of Christmas fabrics already cut into strips and shapes. They have been sitting there since I cut the houses for my Christmas village table runner more than 3 years ago. I had umpteen fabrics out already, so I decided to just keep cutting for a rainy day, and this week I started playing with them.
I wanted simple pillows that would fit anywhere, and started laying out rectangles for a panel for each one. 4 of the panels are quite similar, but they look totally different depending on the solid fabrics added on top and bottom.
This is the grey one (for my daughter)
and the brown one (which I wanted to keep but is for her friend)
the beige one (for a family friend)
the light dusty pink one (up for grabs in tomorrow’s giveaway)
and the pink one (also up for grabs tomorrow).
I love how they look together on my couch. Unfortunately I have run out of many of the readymade rectangles and some of the solids, but maybe there will be time to whip up a few more before the holidays.
Here are the measurements in case you would like to make your own version of the pillows (fits a 20"*20" pillow form).

We’ll be celebrating Christmas Eve with the in-laws this year, and Christmas Day at home with our young ones - two adorable grandsons included. It will be lots of fun - good company, good food, loads of cuddles and laughs, and a few presents thrown into the mix. If you would like to know more about our typical Norwegian celebration, you can read about it here.
You will find the rest of the Quilter's Christmas Party quilts here.

ReplyDeleteI think pink and gold are great Christmas colors. Nice job on the pillows. I am still thinking about what I want to do for our gift exchange at our quilt guild meeting on Thursday. I guess I had better get cracking.
ReplyDeletethanks for the tutorial on the pillows, they are so nice..... seems we have the same delima with finding things when cleaning out the sewing room... I will take on that challenge in January when my Christmas Quilts are all delivered to my charities.

Great cushions Nina Lise! I love the straight line quilting!
ReplyDeleteYour pillows are adorable, and I clicked through to check out your Christmas Village table runner, too -- what a great idea! I don't have anywhere to set up a whole village full of figurines, shops etc. like some people do, but a quilted version would be nice to have. Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great pillow design - thank you for sharing!

ReplyDeleteGreat pillows! I have to mention that all my grandparents/great-grandparents came from Norway and our family always makes lefse for Christmas. I already have some in the freezer and plan to make more. I'm thinking about making jule kake this year too. It's fun to have these traditions.
