A red & white quilt challenge – Design it!

SewCalGal is hosting a year of red and white quilt challenges with lots of different events through the year. Right now there is a design challenge going on, so I thought it would be fun to participate. First of all, I do love a challenge, and second, I wanted to use the opportunity to familiarize myself with my EQ7 software.

Here is the design I decided to enter, “Heartache”

Did I use the software? Nope, not so much, but I have been playing with my trusty old Excel even though I’m sure it’s more time consuming than learning EQ.

I thought you might enjoy watching my process, so here are a few of the layouts I have been working my way through. It all started at our cabin as I was playing with red and white Hama beads, and a heart made by grandson was lying at the table.

Hmm, I wonder how I can transfer that curve into a quilt.

  1. OMG - what else could be done with this? How about a few HST to round off the top?

  2. I would make #7 with the darker borders. I like the patchwork in the center of the design as well as in the order. More chance for playing with my Scraps!

  3. What a great process! i'm drawn to the ones with the 4 hearts, both #4 and #5.
