Summer days

Ok, so this is where I have spent most of my break; two weeks at a fabulous hotel on Gran Canaria which is one of the Spanish Canary Islands on the North West coast of Africa. We have been there several times before, but not at this hotel.
Now, I don’t have big expectations regarding holidays; I don’t envision us all laughing happily together 24-7 like some crazy sitcom family. Our everyday stress is our everyday stress, but going away will at least get us additional sunshine, swimming pools and a change of scenery, and I don’t have to cook every day. What’s not to love??

The first 10 days of our trip were a challenge (read crap) with people getting sick and having to stay inside for several days and way too many problems popping up back home. Usually I handle stress very well and I’m not proud to say this, but on day 8 I snapped, crackled and popped (not a pretty sight I’ll tell you) and for a few hours I wanted nothing more than to go home. Fortunately most of the problems were fixed by day 10; a visit to the doctor’s office, several trips to the pharmacy, a few phone calls and a couple of hours on the Internet do miracles. The last days were wonderful starting with a visit from my sister and her big family who also were on holiday on the island, and we had such a great time including a totally chaotic lunch with 11 people around our little kitchen table.I’m so glad we got the bad stuff out of the way during the first part of the holiday and got the great days at the end because these days are the ones we will remember. I’m happy to be home and celebrated the last day of our summer break taking grandson out for lunch on Sunday.

Now husband is back at work and grandson in kindergarten; daughter has another week or so before Uni starts up again and joined me at my Zumba class yesterday. I haven’t been exercising for two months as I sprained my knee cap and couldn’t do anything. Life is good.-)

  6. Life is life no matter where you are. Gorgeous place by the way! That photo of you and grandson is just precious, what a cutie he is. Maybe it was good to snap, crackle and pop, sometimes that's all it takes to smooth things out. Hope your ankle heals quickly. xox Corrine

  7. How refreshing to hear about a holiday that was just real life. The hard times will be forgotten, and the good memories will remain.

  8. I'm glad to hear you had at least part of a good holiday - and you're right - better having fun at the end than not. Remind me to tell you one day about the camping trip from H**L! The one where I got poison ivy in a place you don't EVER want to get poison ivy! LOL

  9. The last time (and only) I have been in the Canaries, my friend fell down the stairs and sprained her ankle. Not fun!
