Welcome to new visitors to my blog, Mrs Moen, and to the rest of you, welcome back! Feel free to have a look around or to stop by later. I’m a Norwegian quilter who designs patterns and teach classes on the side, and this is where I record my creative work. You will find big orange buttons to my tutorial and pattern pages in the sidebar.
Avoiding all the things I should be doing preparing for Christmas, I have been playing with wintery Happy Houses. I was totally hooked on recycling table cloths this spring, and still have fun with them. My Happy white damask House is appliquéd onto a blue cloth with white snow crystals, very appropriate for the season I would say.
Instead of appliquéing the tree, I have played with stamping white fabric paint directly onto the cloth.
The quilt, “Happy Holiday House #4”, is embellished with white fluffy yarn and buttons. I thought I would dress everything more up, but well, the quilt had a mind of its own and was quite happy with less is more.
So, there you are, this little house could be yours. It’s not that Christmassy so it’s ok to get it after Christmas (unless you live next door and I’m pretty sure my neighbours don’t spend too much time online).
Having been totally hooked on knitting the last few weeks (told you I was avoiding Christmas preparations, didn’t I?), I’ll also give away a hand knitted hat. It’s made with machine washable salmon pink-ish 100 % wool yarn and in my favourite style this year. My whole family has them in various colours now, some of us even more than one, and this colour is my favourite. Getting pictures of a hat without a head (except mine of course) is not that easy, but Lightening McQueen has been very helpful indeed.
So, if you like decorating for the winter holidays and want to keep your head warm let me know; just leave a comment to this post and tell me so. If you want the quilt and live in Hawaii or another location where it’s always sunny and warm, just let me know and I’ll draw a second winner for the hat. And the other way around; if you love hats but hate cute little quilts, just say so in your comment.
I’ll choose a winner on December 17th, (no random this time; I’ll pick one myself) and I will ship internationally.
Good luck to you all!
Sorry; the giveaway is now closed!
Hi there, I love your quilts (as you know, me being one of your stalkers) but I'm not a hat person at all. In the extremely cold weather we've had here recently I've been forced to don an "thinsulate" hat and suffered "hat hair" as a result, as well as an itchy scalp! Like I say, hats and me are not a happy combination (although yours are very cute!). If I'm lucky your little wintery house will fit in very well in my little wintery cottage here in England (and I know our snow is as nothing compared to your usual stuff!!) Happy Christmas Mrs M and thanks for this chance and for all the gorgeous things you shared throughout the year.
ReplyDeleteX-mas preparations really suck this year.
ReplyDeleteIt´s the first year without my sister-in-law. Last year we´ve prepared the dinner together, talking, having fun. Just a month later she died.
So I really have no motivation, despite the fact, that I have to be really carefull with my back and couldn´t work or craft or sew for 6 weeks. This sucks as well.
Maybe I could use your hat to hide my face in it (like: If I can´t see you, I´m not there)?
Or just stare at your beautiful little quilt for those three days?
Anyway, I wish you a very merry x-mas, may all your wishes come true!
Anja
oo how lovely! i think your work is so fun! please throw my name in either hat! i live in MN and we just received 20 inches of snow, so the hat would be quite welcome!! i always enjoy popping over to see what delight you are working on..thank you for the chance to win either of these!

ReplyDeleteI've been reading your blog for a while now. I'm in for either giveaway. They both look great.
ReplyDeleteI would love to win the quilt piece. I love little pieces of decorations that can go up for the holidays on the walls. I realized this year that most of my christmas decorations are ornaments and garland. So I want to expand my collection.
ReplyDeleteWow- those are both gorgeous!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI really love the hat, especially.
My b-day is Dec 17th, and that would be the BEST PRESENT EVER
Gorgeous artwork. Thanks so much for sharing. I would love to decorate my home with the wall hanging. I hope you win some crafty goodness, too!
ReplyDeleteI loooove it! Thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeleteI grew up in Michigan and am now in Australia. I've been missing the snow, so the winter scene would be lovely to win.

ReplyDeleteThe little house is my kind of Christmasy!
ReplyDeleteThe hat looks so warm and here in the sunny south that is just what we need at the moment!
Elsker quilten med det flotte huset og treet. Bildet er knall fint og du gir meg masse inspirasjon. Herlig tre som du har malt - takker for ideèn :-) Ønsker deg en fortsatt fin adventstid.
ReplyDeleteI like the house because we do not have snow in my part of the world! the hat would be for my daughter who lives in Melbourne. It can get chilly there!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, I adore that little quilt! I live in North Dakota and am currently buried in snow, that sweet picture just says home to me. :) The hat is adorable too, looks so cozy! Bookmarking you, I really love your style!

Nice giveaways! Thanks for the holiday cheer!
ReplyDeleteI love both, so you can do either one for me!:)
ReplyDeleteswim(dot)kayla(at)hotmail(dot)com
I think the house looks awesome. That would make a good wall hanging during the winter months! :) And I LOVE hats. I can't seem to keep many though because my son loves hats too and takes mine. And what's even better is that this hat has been worn by Lightening McQueen, his favorite cartoon character of all time (he's 2).
ReplyDeleteThank you for such a great giveaway!
lusive.tracy(at)gmail(dot)com
DAlring darling darling! Love that little quilt, it's gorgeous, but I'm also a hat person. I'd take either, but first choice is the quilt I'd say.
ReplyDeletelimes.sweet(at)gmail(dot)com
I love them both- you are so talented! I'd pick the quilt first though because I adore quilted items! <3
ReplyDeleteThanks for a great giveaway! Happy holidays to you and yours! xox

I love your recycled table cloth. So sweet and the colors are wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI love them both, so pick away but let it be me!

Oh I love this hat!!! I know I don't live up north but I sure can use it!!
ReplyDeleteLove the Happy Houses! It's perfect!
ReplyDeleteI live in Arizona which is always hot so I'm afraid the hat won't do me any good. Thank you for such a great giveaway!!!
What a generous giveaway! I have been trying for YEARS to knit, but I can't do it. That hat is in one of my absolute favorite colours. Love it!
ReplyDeleteThe quilt is adorable, too....good luck to everyone who enters, and thanks again!

I would love the pink-ish wool hat for myself. Thanks for the chance to win. Happy Christmas. stephspitzer at gmail
ReplyDeleteI am usually a quilt person, but unfortunately the quilt will not fit into my little tiny apartment. So, I will have to go for the lovely salmon-ish hat. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteembyrfire(at)hotmail(dot)com
I love both cute little quilts and warm, cozy hats.
ReplyDeleteIt is bitterly cold up here, so the hat would definitely be worn in regular rotation.
hugs & happy holidays from ON, Canada

So hard to choose. Both look great.
ReplyDeleteI'll go with the hat as it's such a gorgous colour and if I should win it should arrive in time for a very special wee girl who will be turning 4 on the 31st December.
Thanks so much for a chance to win.:-)
Happy Holidays
They're both beautiful. The hat is such a lovely color! Thank you for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteIf I had the winter house to go with my spring house I'd only need two more seasons :) And I love the hat and would wear it. Thanks for a chance at your lovely giveaway.
ReplyDeleteThey are both so cute! Thank you for the chance to win!

ReplyDeleteI love your houses and have been meaning to make some of my own!
I always wear a hat this time of year (it's particularly cold here in the UK at the moment) and really don't care about hat hair!!
Gill
I love the quilt AND the hat! They're both lovely. :)
ReplyDeletecherie.searles(at)gmail(dot)com
I love both!!! They are sweet!!!
ReplyDeleteespmax(at)gmail(dot)com
What a lovely giveaway. And although I do live somewhere where it's sunny, I'd love them both! I knit but with 2 and 3/4 kids under 4 at the moment never find the time to knit for myself! I'm loving stumbling across blogs I wouldn't have otherwise this week too - I'll have to come back and visit again!
ReplyDeleteI love the house quilt, you are so talented!!!
ReplyDeleteI am from Virginia, home all four seasons; therefore, I would be the happiest girl alive if I won either of them! (The quilt being my favourite!) I am getting married in one month and could use a lovely addition to my new home! :) Thanks for the giveaway... cthompson4@liberty.edu
ReplyDeleteI love the color of the hat! Most pinks I don't like, but I really like salmon-y or coral-y shades. And the house is so cute! Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteparknj at verizon dot net
I would feel a bit selfish taking both when two people could be made happy. If I had to choose one, I would love the hat. Pink is my favorite color and brightens the yucky grey days that last all winter here in Utah! Thank you for sharing your talents!
ReplyDeleteIt's really cold here in Paris, France at the moment... So both gifts would fit, I'm not able to pick one !!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the winter houses but I could really use the hat in this zero degree wind chill too!
ReplyDeleteI love them both and couldn't possibly pick one over the other! I think I would have to be surprised :) You are one talented lady!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful idea!
ReplyDeleteNothing better than a handmade gift!
God bless you.
Kind regards from Germany.

I love the quilt--the house is fabulous!
ReplyDeleteI love the hat!
ReplyDeletejshen37 at gmail dot com
Very cute! I love it! Thanks for entering me :-)
ReplyDeleteI love the quilt and could use the hat up here in Maine :)
ReplyDeleteI love the little quilt! I'm all for anything that can be put out for longer periods of time, since I'm not much of a decorator. The hat looks cozy warm, too!
ReplyDeleteMrs. Moen: you are a hoot! I loved reading your posts. Your sense of humor is much appreciated, after a day of work where no one seemed to have much fun today. Thanks for that as much as for the opportunity to own a lovely piece of handmade goodness. I love the quilt the best as I live in Arizona and the hate would only see approximately two weeks of real winter usage!!! Which is sad because I love the color you've chosen. I hope you make lots of new friends during the giveaway. Tina
ReplyDeleteThey are both fabulous!
ReplyDeleteThat little quilt is fabulous!! So inventive. I am a new follower and am happy to have found you. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteI love both. thank you for this chance, hugs
ReplyDeleteI love the color of yarn you picked for the hat! What is the name of it? Also, I love that it's cable knit. I crochet, but haven't quite mastered knitting so can't do cable knit. Would love to sport your sweet beanie! :)
ReplyDeleteThey are both great!! I am in Australia so it's always summer at Christmas...
ReplyDeletexo Steph
I love the quilt and hat, and being in New Zealand they would arrive well in time for Winter!
ReplyDeleteWoot! Woot! Cute loot!
ReplyDeleteYour little house and salmon hat duo is a giveaway worthy of awesome sauce!
It's below zero here so a hat would be much appreciated and loved!!
♥Duff
Please enter my name in your lovely drawing, I would love the little quilt or the hat

If I had to pick, I'd take the hat. Not only is pink my favorite color, but I love all things knitted and have just started learning...someday I'll make something recognizable. Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeletekbiermann(at)gmail(dot)com
Oh my I cannot choose! I could love any of those, but will say the quilt! (although would be more than happy with the hat!)
ReplyDeleteThat quilt is so cute, I'd love it! We are in sad need of Xmas decor. It's freezing here, so the hat would be useful, but we do have those already, so I'd be happy to let another lucky person have it!
ReplyDeleteshwebel (at) gmail (dot) com
Great giveaway, you're very creative! Love the hat too! Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteokiedokiemama at yahoo dot com
I love them both! Your Happy Houses make me smile - I've always wanted to try quilting cute and quirky designs like that, but it just never seems to work out the way they look in my head. Sad, but true. :-( (So I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that I win your one instead!)
ReplyDeleteThe hat is super-awesome as well. But then, I am somewhat biased as I love pink!
Thanks for the chance to win! :-)
Thank you for such a lovely giveaway. The little house is so cool - all the different techniques used to make it. Thanks and happy holidays.
ReplyDeleteI am making a fabric banner for the holidays.
I so love your style! the images are simple yet striking, and so attractive for young and old. I would be very happy indeed with the Happy House quilt.
ReplyDeleteI make greek shortbread every christmas. It is a tradition that started about 10 years ago with our neighbour and every year we make about 200 of them, and then give out to our friends. It's a great way of bringing both families together to share in the spirit of giving.

Love that happy house! I'm hoping for some snow for Christmas. Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeletektyoung1(at)gmail(dot)com
I love the quilt!
ReplyDeleteI like, but the hat would make me so happy! Are you using a pattern that you could share? I am a fine knitter, but haven't been able to make a hat that someone can actually wear. Too small, too big, too long, etc. blah
ReplyDeletebmoore_mamabee(at)hotmail(dot)com
Hei paa deg!
ReplyDelete(Jeg bor i Belgia og snakker kun litt norsk, soooo... I'll swap to English now ;-) )
I really like your quilting style and find it very refreshing! The hat is lovely too - and seeing it being modelled by Lightning McQueen just had me in stitches! :-D
Thank you for a very fun give-away,
Sabine

I love the house, and I think the button snowman is too cute. That 's a nice design.
ReplyDeleteSuch lovely prizes -- thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeletePS: I had to grin when I saw the photo of the ball wearing the hat -- great fun. :)
Love the quilt! Thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeleteI love your little art House quilt. Very interesting techniques you've used. I'm not to much of a hat person.
ReplyDeleteWould you believe I own not a single thing from Norway? And I would absolutely love to own that little house quilt. Isn't it interesting to think about....you in your little home crafting away on a tree...only to have it wing its way soooo far away to Virginia and have it take up residence in a different home? I think it would be delightful! And i think it would make for a very happy Christmas! Thank you for the possibility.
ReplyDeleteYour little quilt is so creative! Love the hat too!
ReplyDeleteHehe, love the photographing on a bowling ball. I'd be honored to receive your handmade work from Norway - and I'd complain about the winter cold but I guess it's colder there. Still would love to live in your country, though. Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteIf you'd like to enter my giveaway in return, I'm giving away fabric coasters at http://www.etsy.com/shop/ananemone
I love that quilt! I'm happy to find your blog -- when I was 12, I lived in Karmøy for a year, and even saw my first rock concert in Stavanger! I have so many wonderful memories of that part of Norway, and would love to have your quilt in my home.
ReplyDeleteGod Jul!
