Christmas on Earth, Day Six

Day Six, a little table topper with soft and bumpy snow on the roofs.
It feels like winter already.-)

Christmas on Earth, Day Five

Day Five, the little table runner with pink houses for daughter.
I love pale pinks with dark blue, it’s so clean and crisp and wonderful and yet most of the pink fabrics I have ever owned have gone into projects for her. Note to myself: use more pinks.

Christmas on Earth, Day Four

Day Four, the not-so-traditional-colour way table cloth.
I wanted to show how the design works on non-Christmassy fabrics and chose this fun dotted turquoise. I don’t like to meander quilt table cloths, but as I made a little glitch in the preparations it was the best solution after all.

I love the flowery ribbon which is attached by machine.

The stitching makes all the difference, don’t you think?

Christmas on Earth, giveaway winner

Thank you to all of you who entered the Christmas on Earth pattern giveaway!
Random.org has done its magic and congratulations to
May Britt who won the Norwegian version and
Nancy Sue who won the English version.

Congratulations to you both; and to the others – thank you for playing along!

And moving on to a little Sunday evening bragging; Rene’ left me a comment a while ago congratulating me on being published in Quilter’s Home. Huh? I had no idea what she was talking about as magazines take a while to get here. She kindly sent me a copy and now the magazine itself has arrived. Thanks to Jennifer Marsh from The Dream Rocket for submitting my "Comfort" quilt and for keeping me updated on where it’s exhibited. I would love to see one of those exhibitions by the way.

You can read more about The Dream Rocket here and have a virtual tour of some of the wonderful artwork here.

Christmas on Earth, Day Two & Three

I have joined in on SewCalGal’s Christmas Quilt Show again as I truly enjoyed last year’s show. Lots of lovely blogs to visit, quilts to see and bloggers to meet; what’s not to love?

I have chosen two of my Christmas on Earth projects for the show. Christmas on Earth is my Christmas class and pattern of the year. I had so much fun making these that I made 7 samples instead of the planned 4. Oh well, I see little globes decorated for Christmas wrapped up in colourful paper under a few Christmas trees come December 24th.

The design is quite simple, but it’s all the little details and embellishments that make them interesting. I love pieces where you have to take a closer look to see the whole picture.

Day Two
This table runner is raw edge appliquéd; machine quilted, embellished by hand and I think I’ll have to keep it for myself as it fits perfectly on my coffee table.

Day Three
This pillow is raw edge appliquéd, machine quilted, embellished by machine and I think I’ll have to keep this one as well as it fits perfectly on my couch.-)
I’ll be celebrating Christmas at home with my family – husband, daughter, grandson (3 ½) and in laws. It should be fun, grandson getting so big and all. He will probably prefer hot dogs to the traditional Christmas dinner with dried and salted ribs of lamb, potatoes and mashed Swedish turnips; and I’ll be happy to cook him some. Everyone should have something they like on Christmas.

You can see more of the Christmas on Earth series here. I’ll be running out of places to put Christmas projects...

Christmas on Earth Class

I have finally been downloading pictures from last weekend’s class. It was such a great day; lovely students (the ones who made it to the class that is as almost half the class were missing for different reasons) and, all added together, at least one fully equipped sewing room worth of stuff.
The students were very enthusiastic and had lots of ideas about how they would make the projects their own. Definitely my favourite kind of class; thank you ladies for spending such a beautiful fall day with me!
And on the subject of Christmas classes, I just had an idea for another one, oh well, there’s always next year.

Christmas on Earth, Day One

If you think it’s too early for Christmas stuff or not into Christmassy things at all, you might want to skip reading this blog for a few days as I plan to present the finished projects from this and this post. There’s not that much difference but they are Finished Projects and deserve the proper blows & whistles.

Day One aka the testdrive

I have decided to leave it like this – unless I think of something brilliant...

Christmas on Earth Pattern giveaway

It’s been a while since I have added new patterns to my pattern pages, but that’s how life goes some times. Anyway, here’s the pattern for the Christmas on Earth projects some of you have seen progressing here over the last few months. I will be posting pictures of the finished projects the next couple of weeks or so.The pattern giveaway is, as usual, for my regular readers only. You don’t have to be a follower, if I’m on your blog roll or you stop by on a regular basis that’s ok. The patterns are pdf-patterns and will be sent by email, so leave your email address in your comment if it’s not linked up to your Blogger profile.

The patterns are up on my pattern pages, ready to order. You’ll find the buttons in my sidebar “Mrs Moen Patterns” and “Mrs Moen Mønstre”.

I’ll give two copies away – one pattern in English and one in Norwegian.

Leave a comment on this post for the English version or this post for the Norwegian version.

I’ll draw the winners on Sunday evening Norwegian time.

Good luck to you all.

Christmas on Earth Testdrive

A less-than-successful quilt is born and embellished.I will hopefully get this right at some point or maybe I should just archive it under lessons learned and move on. For now I’m leaning towards making it right; Christmas is still 2 months away.

Christmas on Earth, Day 5-7

I only meant to have 4 Christmas on Earth samples, 3 decent ones and the horrible test drive, but I had to try out more variations and once I got going I couldn’t stop until I had made 3 more. One of them has of course pinks and will be daughter’s table runner for the holidays. Here they are, Day 5-7

Day 5

Day 6
Day 7
And back to the bindings again.

Christmas on Earth, Day 2-4

I’ve got a few months or so of hand stitching bindings, but here are 3 of the 7 WIPs named “Christmas on Earth, Day 1-7”:
Day 2 from this post
Day 3
Day 4
The test sample, Day 1, keeps putting up a fight and I’m still figuring out what to do with it. The class is at November 6th so I still have a few weeks to come up with something.

Back to the bindings.

Binding Day

It’s time to get those bindings on the Christmas on Earth samples and I have been ironing bindings for what seems like hours. If you’re a member of Rogaland Quiltelag and looking for pictures of the quilts they will be posted here on Tuesday and Wednesday with the bindings basted on. I will bring them all to the guild meeting on Wednesday together with the supply list.

My serenity has been somewhat disturbed lately due to extensive roadwork in our street.
I’m not sure they stopped at all the first night as the last I heard of them was at 1 in the night and then at 5 the next morning. After a few days I have managed to block the noise out and only notice it when it’s gone. I’ll probably not be able to do that when they start chiselling in our yard, but until then it’s fine. The more they work every day the sooner they’ll finish and we’ll get our garden, parking space and accessibility back.

Have a wonderful Monday; I’ve got to start stitching...

Creating Christmas on Earth

The process of creating my new class samples for the Christmas on Earth class has not been as smooth as I hoped for. My little Rules of Embellishment 1, 2 & 3 are bumps in the roads and mistakes I have made along the way to (what will hopefully be) lovely Christmas projects. A novice at embellishing, I’m still trying out my original ideas to see if they work at all. Not all of them do, you know. The good part of making and documenting these little accidents is that I now can tell my students what not to do. Quite important information I would say.

Anyway, what looks like a star from a distance is actually a lacy globe with trees of which one is decorated for Christmas. It’s more obvious up close, and I like that you have to take a closer look to see the whole picture.
